When traveling on assignment, budgeting can be quite tricky. Medical Staffing Solutions, A TotalMed Company is here to give you a few budgeting tips the next time you travel!
1. Create a Travel Budget
This is really helpful to keep you on track. If you want to expand your travel assignment, you are going to need to spend less (in your every day life AND while traveling). A lot of people will buy all the meals and drinks and do all the activities. Come up with a certain budget for your time there and stick to it. That way you can continue to take on more assignments.
2. Find Free Accommodations
If you’re feeling adventurous, there are quite a few ways to find free accommodations. While it may take more time researching and communicating, if you are on a tight budget or looking for a new experience, this could be one! Here are a few ways you can do that:
- Agency housing: At MSS, you will be provided with free, private, furnished housing on every company-paid travel assignment, no matter where you travel. Speak to your recruiter for further details!
- Stay with a friend, or a friend of a friend: This is always a fun one. The world is a very small place. I guarantee if you put on Facebook “hey, going to be in Spain, anyone have a friend there that I could potentially stay with?” you’d absolutely get at least one hit. Take advantage of your connections, but of course, do something nice for them if they are doing you a favor too!
3. Avoid Going Shopping
This is a very difficult thing to do, but avoiding going shopping will save you tons of money. Make sure you pack all the essentials you need, so you don’t have to go buy them later. You would be surprised at how much money goes down the drain having to buy your essentials while on assignment. So, try to avoid shopping to travel on a budget.
4. Cook at Home
While eating out is fun and exciting, cooking in is an important part of traveling on a budget. Grabbing some food from the grocery store or a local market and eating in will save you tons of money. Plus, it can be a lot healthier too!
5. Find Free Activities
While traveling, it’s fun to find free activities. There are so many free walking tours, museums, or local events. You can check on Facebook or find local bloggers to see what’s going on in the place you are visiting. Another pro is that usually you will engulf yourself with the locals, which is a great way to embrace new cultures!
