The last time we heard from MSS Travel Nurse, Laura Hlohinec, she was on an assignment with us in Hawaii. She was working hard to put three boys, from the Dominican Republic, through college and to get them healthy.

Laura went to the Dominican Republic visit the boys to have a small reunion. All three boys are well into their first year of college; one has chosen to study accounting, another law, and the third boy is deciding between chemical engineering or accounting. They all seem to have clean bill of health too. Laura reported that one of the boys has been TB free for a year now and his family is doing well too.
While on her reunion trip, Laura took a nine hour bus ride to cross the border into Haiti. Laura is working with an organization called Ti Kay which provides free TB treatment for in- or outpatients. Laura spends her days working with TB and AIDS patients to get them to a point where they are able to return home. She works on getting her patients to eat and walk to gain their strength back. She said that the Ti Kay organization provides all the treatment for free but have very little funding. Oxygen is the biggest expense and the most needed.
And there is never a shortage of those who can help others. Laura has accepted these boys from the Dominican Republic into her life and has made it a goal to give them a chance at an education and a healthier life.
Laura is still funding the boys’ education out of her own pocket. She is still accepting donations to help with tuition cost and living cost.
